Traditional hand skills in the cutting and carving of stone are core to the services I offer my clients. This is teamed with an understanding of historic building construction techniques and a passion for architecture and design.
The damaging effects of the exterior environment and fluctuating weather conditions can often have disastrous effects on outdoor stonework. In working with existing stonework, I will assess the situation and propose the best methods and techniques suitable for the work in question.
I work closely with my clients to create works in stone that are fitting and appropriate for the project. I have experience working for churches, Sheffield Cathedral, theatres, town halls, hotels, major house builders and private households.

Setting an inscription out by hand and traditional V-cut lettering is the core of the bespoke service I offer my clients.
I cut inscriptions into a range of different native stones in many different styles; from formal Roman capitals to flourished letters.
Standing Stones make an interesting focal point in any setting they are placed, especially when they bear a message. House numbers, cottage names and commemorative date stones can be securely fastened to walls and entrance ways.
Headstones and Memorials
Commissioning a piece of work is very straightforward.
An initial meeting is set up where we can go through types of stone, different letterforms. I always encourage a visit to my workshop, where you can see examples of stone and other projects in progress. I like to work collaboratively with clients to form unique meaningful works.
When a design is decided on, often a parish council or local authority will need to be informed. I will approach the relevant authority on your behalf.
Before cutting the inscription, I always like to have a meeting for the client to give the work the green light.
My work is always undertaken to a high level of finish and with the highest regard to the historic or personal significance it may have.
Installing a headstone is an important part of the process. I work to the National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM) code of practice.
